This is the trailer for the AN ART APART-project, wonderfully edited together by Henrik Møll last summer. If you want more information about the project as such and about when the films start popping up, please sign up for the newsletter at this site. Thank you. Some artists create groundbreaking, radical, provoking, transcending, transgressing, mutating works of art that continuously change the culture we live in. What goes on in their minds? What motivates them? And why do they create in the first place? AN ART APART is a series of documentary portraits of artists whose creations and concepts have inspired thousands of people worldwide – who in turn take the ideas further and into new environments. An Art Apart examines these artists’ creative processes, emotions and stories in intimate and revealing conversations. From the most esoteric underground expressions to the mainstream culture we all share, An Art Apart shines the light on what art really is – or can be...
Santa Sangre interview
I was recently interviewed in the great webzine Santa Sangre. Here is the culled text and the wonderful photo by Anna Drvnik. 2014 through my eyes: Carl Abrahamsson “A writer, a musician, a photographer. Owner of Edda Publishing and Trapart, member of Cotton Ferox project and a head of Highbrow Lowlife netlabel. Carl Abrahamsson shares his thoughts on 2014″ How would you summarize this past year on an artistic and personal level? It’s been an interesting year, as things have literally amassed to the point of breaking. Too many things have happened, and now I have to sort it all out as we approach 2015. Truly a “luxury problem”, I know. I’ve been writing more and also published more. More lectures. More books. I’m working on some philosophical writings too, which is terrifying at times. In all, a nice mix. The films in the documentary series “An Art Apart” have all progressed nicely. Ten films in the pipeline now. Most of this first batch will be ready in 2015. Cotton Ferox...
The Economy of Magic
On February 12th, 2015, I will return to Nekropolis in Copenhagen for another lecture. The theme this time is The Economy of Magic – There’s no free lunch, nor free magical success. The talk will basically be an overview of what makes magic function, seen through a filter that is part Thermodynamics, part intuitive yet causal common sense. In order not to overdraw your energy account or create bad magical credit, you’ll be wise to pop up at this lecture! It will be sold out so book your ticket now! 2014: what really happened?
Life is never boring. When I hear people whine about what to do and that nothing ever happens, I usually just stare at them in amazement. On the other hand, sometimes I have to whine that too many things are happening at the same time. Usually a mix of good and bad stuff. 2014 was definitely one of those energetic years of pendulum-like abundance. The bad things first, perhaps… I lost two dear comrades within just a couple of months. Unexpectedly. Out of the blue and into the black. Patrick “Doz”, “The Lama” Lundborg, ca 1992, at Uppsala Högar. Patrick Lundborg (1967-2014) was a great friend from my formative years in Stockholm, when the fuzz-induced garage scene that included my fanzine Lollipop turned into considerably more psychedelic adventures. It’s hard to fully realize the importance of Patrick’s wit and intelligence, but it was there from beginning to end. His masterpiece book Psychedelia – An Ancient Culture, A Modern Way...
