The wonderful record company Ideal Recordings will release a cassette box in 2016. The contained cassettes will be facsimiles of a mini series I released way back in the early 1990s. To begin with, Ideal have released one of these pieces on SoundCloud. Please listen right here! The following text deals with some of the background for these recordings, and will be part of the coming cassette box too. White Stains: The Work Workings The Reality Studio, Stockholm, ca 1989-90. In the process of exploration of ritual, a multitude of musical sources were listened to, tried out and evaluated. Ethnic, traditional, old, contemporary, electronic, acoustic, percussive, drone-based, noisy, still, violent, peaceful. I experienced, took notes and felt what could bring out an optimal sonic atmosphere for my own “intellectual decompression chamber”. Patterns began to emerge. Depending on the ritual in question – physically excited, calmly meditative, intellectually probing – distinct...
Munich lecture coming up!
I’ll be lecturing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany, on Tuesday the 27th of October at 7 pm. The CX Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies are arranging a lecture series called “Real Magic”, which contains interesting talks from artists, academics, musicians and more. My talk will focus on occult counter-culture, and I will be joined via Skype by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge from New York. It should be an interesting evening so I hope to see you there! You can read more at their website right HERE!
Silent Lips (Trailer 1)
During the summer of 2015 I shot my first “real” movie in Sweden and Macedonia for Trapart Film. The post-production is now being finished and the film will be released early in 2016. For me, this has been an amazing adventure, fully endorsed by the film gods. I will write more about this process when the film is ready to be catapulted out there. But for now, loving thanks to Linn Sparrenborg, Andrew M McKenzie, Robin Hayes, Vera & Stojan Nikolich, Thomas Gjutarenäfve, Fredrik Åkerberg, Tea Shaldeva, Jane Altiparmakov, Robert Bolin, Agnieszka Lewalski, Johan Hamrin, Katarzyna Jaskiewicz, Linnea Ericsson, Rickard Gramfors, Roy Sutherwood and Jakob Abrahamsson who helped this dark dream materialise in very satisfying ways! Enjoy the trailer! Silent Lips (Trailer 1) from Carl Abrahamsson on Vimeo.
Once the toothpaste is out of the tube
A new film in the series An Art Apart was just finished: Once the toothpaste is out of the tube. It’s an in-depth peek into the life and mind of brilliant American photographer Charles Gatewood. The film was shot in the summer of 2014 in San Francisco with the help of eminent Swedish artist Åsa Ersmark, and I’m very happy with how it turned out. This year has been such a Film-Gods-blessed year and it just keeps getting better! If you’d like to show this film, just get in touch via the contact page on this site. Thank you. American photographer Charles Gatewood started out in the 1960s as a young man with dreams of showing the world the radical cultural developments that were going on in his country. He met many of the iconic instigators of change and documented them for posterity. As the decades passed, Gatewood drifted more and more into a personal expression of sexual subcultures, both in America and abroad. His powerful photos of pioneers within the...
