In this lecture, The Imaginary Is A Real Thing, I talk about the connections between medieval witchcraft and psychoactive substances, and about the draconian force that emanated from the Christian Church in response to this specific age-old knowledge. If the European monasteries hadn’t become more like theological universities rather than remaining mere libraries, and these environments hadn’t encouraged such a violent hate towards women, then perhaps one of the most disturbing genocides in human history could have been avoided.
